Welcome note

homepage_side_jpgThere is no place in the world that has the profile of the Middle East, constantly in the news and constantly the scene of war. Yet amidst the tragedy of the region there are very few places that have such wonderful people. The people of the Middle East are open, loving and direct. I love the people of this region and so do we as an organization. This includes all people in the region: Israelis and Palestinians, Jews, Christians and Muslims.

What is also sad is the fact that war causes suffering.
So in the midst of the conflict we not only look for political,
diplomatic and religious solutions but we try and help those
in greatest need. This is why we are working with the political
and humanitarian.Canon Andrew White with Prime Minister Blair and Lord Carey

Though working for peace in the region, we are not working against the West. We work closely with the US and British Governments as well as the United Nations. The FRRME also engages very closely with the governments in the countries where we work; the fact that these governments may have opposing views is one of the challenges of our work. A key aspect of the areas in which the FRRME operates is that most people are minorities and if not minorities, then majorities that have suffered.

tank_jpg In addition to our humanitarian and political work we also have a church to run. St George’s Baghdad is the only Anglican Church functioning in Iraq. Apart from my involvement, it's entire large and growing congregation is Iraqi. It is undoubtedly a church in one of the most dangerous places in the world, now surrounded with barbed wire and concrete barricades. It is a place where all of our original church leaders have been killed in 2005, yet new leaders have stepped forward and St. George's continues to be a wonderful gathering of people of true faith.

So the FRRME is a unique body working for peace and relief in one of the most complex areas in the world. We have a wonderful team in Israel, the Palestinian Areas, Iraq and in the UK. We are totally committed to our faith and orthodox in our belief yet working with and respecting people of other faith traditions. I am sure this website will give you a unique insight into a unique work.

                                                         President of the FRRME
